This weekend, I decided to attend the 3rd Annual BlerdCon (Black Nerd Convention) at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Va. There are hardly any words to describe the experience, however amazing definitely is one of the few. It’s rare to see conventions that actually cater to the POC (People of color) demographic, and to have such a space where majority of the con-goers can unapologetically be themselves is a beautiful sight to behold. From the music played, cosplays on display, conversations being had, and bonds being created, the vibe of this convention definitely raised the bar to what my expectations should be for most conventions. The panels were very informative, inclusive, and interactive. The After-Party was a huge success, and it was an overall safe space for everyone involved. I already know to order my ticket for the next year, because this will be an event I support time and time again.
